Born Oct. 5, 1918, in Fayetteville, she was a daughter of the late Ira W. and Sarah Leonard Brown.
A graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, for many years she managed The Pines Leather Shop, Fayetteville.
She married William Eldridge Vanmetre Beard on June 4, 1956, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Beard died Feb. 25, 2002.
A life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Post 78, Ladies Auxiliary, both of Chambersburg; she was a member of BPOElks Lodge 600 Ladies Auxiliary and Women of the Moose 1128, both of Chambersburg, and Ladies auxiliary American Legion Post 945, Wormleysburg.
Mrs. Barnhart enjoyed knitting and feeding deer and humming birds.
Surviving are a brother, Ray A. (husband of Peggy) Brown of Chambersburg; and a sister, Peggy Brown (Mrs. Clyde H.) Kimple of Fayetteville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Chaplain Judith Guasch will officiate.
Private burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
