The Will of Alexander Baulcombe - October 16, 1655:

On the Sixteenth day of October in the year of our Lord, one thousand six hundred and fifty-five, I Alexander Baulcombe of Glynde in the county of Sussex, yeoman, being in good and perfect health and memorie pray so be to God. Considering the uncertaintie of this present life, and defering to settle and dispose of that estate which God hath given me: doe ordaine and make this my last will and Testament in manner following. First I commend my soul to Almightie God who gave it and my bodie to the earth to be decentlie buried. Item I will and give my son John Baulcombe foure hundred pounds. Also I give and bequeath to my daughter Marie one hundred and fiftie pounds. And to my daughter Estire, one hundred and fiftie pounds. To be paid to the said daughters at their respective ages of twentie one years or days of marriage which shall first happen. And in the meanetime I will that my Executor shall mainteine them with profit of their said portion. And if anie of my daughters happen to die before the said age or marriage I will the portion of the deceased to be equallie divided between my children John, Thomas, Marie, Anne and Estire. Also I give to my sister Marie Peirse twentie shillings. And to my cosen Alice Kenard twentie shillings. I give to the poore people of Glinde six shillings and eight pence. All there remaine of my goods and Chattles and credits whatsoever I give and bequeath to Thomas Baulcombe my sonne whom I make my sole executor of this my last will and Testament. An I desire my loving friends Thomas Love and my brother William Coleman to be overseers thereof. In witness where of I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the daie and yere first bene written.

Signed sealed and published in the name of John Baulcombe his marke.

This will was proved at Lindon the two and twentieth day of December one thousand six hundred and fiftie six before the Judges for probate of Wills and granting of Administration lawfullie authorized by the oath of Thomas Baulcomb the sonne and sole Executor named in the said will to whom was commisioned Administration of all and singular the goods Chattles and Debts of the said deceased. He being by vertue of a Commission first legallie sworne will and bound to Administer the same.
