DEATH OF PIONEER
- HARM J. AHLRICHS

Harm Ahlrichs, aged 83, died Sunday at his cottage home at Twin Lakes, southeast of Pomeroy, after having been in failing health for several months.
Funeral services were held in St. John American Lutheran church in Pomoroy Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 18, 1945, Rev. B. Schlachtenhausen (sic) of Rockwell City being in charge. Interment took place in Union Cemetery by the side of his wife, who died over thirty years ago.
Casket bearers were James Kennedy, H. G. Pohl, James Johnson, George Behrends, John Julifs and Herbert Sullivan.
Harm Johnson Ahlrichs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ahlrichs, was born March 18, 1862, at Abickhove, East Friesland, Germany. In 1885 he came to the United States, settling in St. Petersburg, Illinois, where that same year he was united in marriage to Miss Reinty DeVries, and to them were born eleven children. Two preceded their father in death.
In 1894 Mr. and Mrs. Ahlrichs came to Pomeroy where they began farming on their farm two miles south of town. This continued to be his home until he discontinued farming, a son taking over the responsibilities.
Mr. Ahlrichs then purchased a cottage at Twin Lakes where he and his daughter Anna made their home during the summer months, and each fall drove to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to their winter home. Mr. Ahlrichs became a citizen of the United States in the year of 1897.
Surviving are five sons and four daughters: Ed of Pocahontas; John and William of Palmer; Peter of Gilmore City, and Herman of Pomeroy; Mrs. Albert Scheer and Mrs. John Fokken of Havelock; Mrs. Ralph Devitt of Rockwell City, and Miss Anna who made her home with her father. There are 27 grandchildren, one brother George of Manson, one sister, Mrs. Anna Bangert of Pomeroy, and other relatives and many friends.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish in this manner to thank our relatives, friends and neighbors for their kindnesses, the help in the home, also for the beautiful flowers at the time of the illness and death of our father, Harm Ahlrichs.
