Original Correll family was French who later moved to Germany. It is known they lived west of the Rhine River and arrived in Pennsylvania from Palatinate, Germany before the Revolutionary War, about 1740. They were in the war helping the colonies gain their freedom from England. They were probably Lutheran
The first census (taken in 1790), showed Adam, Jacob & John Correll Sr were living in Rowan County, North Carolina. John, was head of the family and had 5 sons under age 16 & 2 females.
About the year 1817, john & Samuel, the brothers came from North Carolina to illinois. John settled about 3/4 mile northwest of Mt Ephraim (Crawford County). Samuel later returned to North Carolina & was buried there.
John Correll & wife Mary were granted land (170a) by patent November 4, 1784 in the county of Rowan on one of the head branches of Dutch Buffalo Creek.
John Adam Correll & Jacob Correll lived on adjoining property in Rowan County in 1784, Adam, Phillip also bought adjoining property in 1784.
