Kenneth R. Albert, 80, of Columbus, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Columbus, the son of Carl William and Edna May Bierlein Albert. He was a former Madison resident, and a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Canaan. He was a truck driver for many years, retiring from Cosco. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, having served as service officer for Unit 85 in Bellview, Fla., for several years; and of the Hoosier Schooners Camping Club for 40 years, serving as national hiking director. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys May Porter Albert; three daughters, Sandra Tindell and Eva Snyder, both of Columbus, and Kenna Gilham of Scipio; two sons, Dennis Albert of Columbus and Daniel Albert of North Vernon; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Meredith L. and Carl Albert.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel, in Columbus, with burial in Garland Brook Cemetery in that city.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of the service, at the funeral home.
Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Disabled American Veterans.
