An investigation is underway after a teenage boy was fatally shot in a vacant field in San Bernardino, police said Sunday.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting on Tuesday in the 1200 block of East Davidson Street and found the victim in the field suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Jesus Cervantes, 14, was pronounced dead at the scene, the San Bernardino Police Department said in a news release. Family member later confirmed the boy's identity and said his last name was spelled Cervantez.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear and authorities provided no information on any suspects in the case.

No other details were released.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Sawyer at 909-384-5630 or via email at [email protected] or Sergeant Tello at 909- 384-5613 or via email [email protected].

According to other news reports, Jesus was a funny, kind and generous boy who was playing with a friend in a vacant lot when a fight broke out between two adult men. It is believed that Jesus was shot by accident. One of the adult men was shot but survived and the suspect escaped in a burgundy car. Jesus leaves behind a devastated family including his parents and younger siblings.Jesus was tragically murdered on Tuesday November 10, 2020 by a careless act of gun violence. Jesus was only 14 years old and in the 8th grade. He was a funny and outgoing son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and little homie to all. Our family, friends and entire community of "Okie Ville" in San Bernardino are devastated by this tragedy. Jesus was such a blessing for so many people and will be deeply missed.

His Mother Suzie, Step Father Andrew, brothers Steven and Isaac and sister Marina are truly heartbroken. No parent should ever have to think of funeral expenses at a time like this. Please help by donating to Suzie and her family so we mayput together arrangements to send Jesus home with our Heavenly Father above and who will be reunited with all of our families angels.
