Jacob August died Sunday of heart failure, at his home, at 319 West Sixth street, at the age of 79 years.
He was born at Neikerschien, Bavaria, July 11, 1823, and came to America in 1844, and located at Warrington, North Carolina, where he lived for one year before the Civil war. He then moved to New York city, where he was evolved in general merchandise business, and remained there until 1879 when he moved to Kansas. He was the proprietor of the August Clothing company at 622 Kansas avenue.
Mr. August was married to Miss Bertha Epstein at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and seven children were born, four sons and three daughters. Surviving children are; Mrs. Josephine Mendelson, Mrs. Phil Jacobs, Mrs. E. Baer and Mr. E. J. August all of New York City, and Mr. Albert J. August of St. Joseph, Missouri, and David and Abe august of Topeka., Kansas.
He was the oldest of a family of five children, two brothers and two sisters. The two brothers have died, the sisters are; Mrs. D. A. Wolff of Bryan, Ohio, and Miss Yetta Klotz of Newark, New Jersey. His father died of heart failure 32 years ago.

Remains were held at Topeka Cemetery until transferred to New York
