SADIE F. MONIS SOARES, 78, of 51 Anthony Rd., a former political activist, died Monday in St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River. She was the wife of the late Joseph Monis.

Born in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Lewis) Andrade.

Mrs. Soares was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church and a member of the American Legion of Portsmouth. She had been an active worker on the Democratic Women's Committee of Portsmouth. During the 1970s, she worked in the kitchen for the Headstart program.

She leaves a son, James Monis of Fall River; a daughter, Nancy Marshall Sylvia of Portsmouth; two brothers, Ralph Andrade of Warren and Manuel Andrade of Barrington; four sisters, Elsie Travares of Portsmouth, and Irene Preziouso, Hilda Armilotto and Alice Travares, all of Bristol; 6 grandchildren, 19 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was the sister of the late Joseph Andrade, John Andrade, Mary Andrade and Cora Carr.

The funeral will be held tomorrow with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 7a.m. in St. Barnabas Church, East Main Road. Burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery.
