Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Son of the late Benjamin and Elsie Carman, born in Liberty MS, on December 31, 1943. Frank graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1961 and served in the National Guard for 6 years. He married Barbara (Pring) in 1969 and spent his career teaching math in the Lansing School District. He started at Dwight Rich, then Sexton, and retiring from Otto. In addition to teaching, Frank also served his union colleagues by bargaining and negotiating fair contracts. His math expertise played a huge role in the outcome of the strike of 1979. Anyone that had Mr. Carman for math knew the proper spelling of his name: One Car, One Man. They also knew that Mr. Carman didn't "give" grades; grades were "earned." Frank often went in to school early, stayed late, and sacrificed his lunch hours – all to help students who were struggling with math or just needed a safe place to be. After retiring from the Lansing School District in 1999, Frank went to work at Our Savior Lutheran Church, working with numbers of course! After retiring from his work at church, Frank volunteered at the OSL Food Bank three days a week. Frank was known for his card tricks, "boxes," and listening quizzes. He loved to cut out articles from newspapers and magazines and make his own scrapbooks. Frank had a passion for cars, and for making them look as nice as possible. He spent many summers working on his cars, as well as the cars of family and friends – washing, vacuuming, polishing, etc – "Carmanizing" them! He also had a love for computers and spreadsheets. If something could be labeled or typed up, it was! Sports have always been a highlight in Frank's life – from playing, to watching, to officiating, to scorekeeping, and more recently to watching his grandchildren compete. Bowling, racquetball, and tennis were his favorites to participate in.

Frank is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barb, his "Angel." Also surviving are his two Daddy's Girls, Susie (Ben) Davenport and Debbie (Greg) Peckham. Frank was incredibly blessed with seven grandchildren: Zach, Ryan, Ariana, Elyse, Hayden, Emily, and Simon. He is also survived by his brother, Bill (Dee) Carman, of Florida, and his brother-in-law Jim (Louise) Pring, of New Zealand, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frank's family wishes to thank the staff of The Willows at Okemos, Fresenius Kidney Care, and Mid-Michigan Hospice for their love, care and support.

Frank's family will receive visitors on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 PM & 6:00-8:00 PM at Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Holt Chapel. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM. The Funeral will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bill Wangelin officiating. The family strongly encourages face mask be worn for visitations and service. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the OSL Food Bank, OSL Hope Scholarship, or MSU Baseball.
