Anna's 1897 marriage record to George Robinson indicates her name was Anna Rogowski, the daughter of Jacob & Annie and that she was born in Germany. The 1900 census lists Anna and other living children John, Jacob, William, Frederick, and Martha and says they immigrated in 1882 (Jacob had died by then abt 1899). It was not until WWI and the 1920 census that her place of birth began being listed as PA with a maiden name of Shultz. Her obituary perpetuates this incorrect information of her being US-born. Understandably, many German immigrants at this time no longer wished to be associated with Germany, given the events of the late war and subsequent persecutions of people with German ancestry. It is interesting that the obituary makes a special point to indicate (incorrectly) that she was a lifelong resident of Reading.
