The City of Heflin Police Department and Turner family are mourning the loss of one of their own, seven year old K9 Beni. Beni was killed in the line of duty when he was struck by a vehicle while conducting an open air search of a vehicle along the side of Highway 20 on Wednesday night.

K9 Beni was a dual purpose K9 who served with the department for five years. He was responsible for getting countless amounts of narcotics of the streets, as well as taking suspects into custody. Beni was responsible for finding lost children, as well as people with Alzhiemers who became lost. He was truly an all around amazing dog.

Beni was a beloved member of the department and the Turner family. Heflin Police Chief Ross McGlaughn said Beni was truly one of them and is already deeply missed. Beni was loved by his entire community. Once you met him, you would never forget him. Beni will live on in the hearts and memories of everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

Please join us in keeping Major Danny Turner, the Turner family and the entire Heflin Police Department in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Rest easy good boy, we will never forget you.
