Naomi Parrish Wallace, 85, of Ithaca, passed quietly away on December 23, 2007 due to complications related to age. Naomi was born in Mountain Green, Utah on January 10, 1922, to Joseph Alonzo and Ida Elizabeth Cook Parrish. She was raised on the family farm along with her six siblings, where she learned at an early age the value of hard work while tending to her duties related to farm life. While a youth, she learned to appreciate and love the Rocky Mountains as well as the beauty of nature. She served faithfully as a missionary in the Canadian East Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the late 1940's, where she met her future husband, Donald Howard Wallace of Driggs, Idaho. They were married on June 1, 1949 in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. While in Logan, she supported her husband during his studies at Utah State University, where she briefly attended until starting her family. In 1953, they moved to Ithaca, where Donald attended graduate school at Cornell University, and where he was later employed until his death in 2002. While living in Ithaca, she was blessed to travel around the world, with time briefly spent in the Philippines and in India.
Together she and Donald had six children, including Gaylen (deceased), Patricia Koltko of Ithaca, NY, Paulette (John) Taylor of Laie, HI, Conley (Elizabeth) Wallace of Nazareth, PA, Russell (Marti) Wallace of Lubbock, TX, and Carol Nelson of Austin, TX. She is survived by her sister, Josephine Spring (Maryland); as well as 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her son, Gaylen, she was also predeceased by her grandson, Jonathan Taylor. After raising her own children, Naomi loved to share her time with the grandchildren, spoiling them with love and affection, and teaching them the values of her life's lessons.
For over fifteen years she faithfully planned memorable camp outs and reunions where each summer her family would gather somewhere in the Finger Lakes Region, and where she and Donald could enjoy watching them grow. She loved her flower and vegetable gardens and processed many of the fruits and vegetables she grew. Her love for nature continued into her later years when she especially enjoyed watching for birds outside her big picture window, which in addition to overlooking the back yard, also had a beautiful view of Cayuga Lake. She served three times as Relief Society President and for many years as a Family History Specialist at the local LDS Chapel. She touched the lives of many with her wisdom, talents, and humor, and will be missed by all those who spent time with her.
Funeral services will be held on December 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 114 Burleigh Drive, Ithaca. Local funeral arrangements are provided by Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a revolving fund which helps needy individuals improve their lives). Her final resting place will be alongside her husband and son in the Logan City Cemetery, with those services provided by Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, UT.
