Joe Marlin Lafever, 83 of Cookeville passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born Wednesday, February 16, 1938 in Cookeville to the late Ernest Franklin Lafever and Clara B. Cason Lafever. He was the oldest of 12 children. Joe loved his family, especially his wife of 63 years, and was often heard bragging on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was also a friend to many.

Joe was retired from the United States Navy and he was very proud to have served for his country. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He was very proud of his accomplishment of being chosen to be a part of the Honor Guard.

Joe took great pride in mowing his yard and always kept it looking very nice. Joe was never satisfied with the outcome because he felt that he needed more seed or fertilize just to compete with the neighbors. Joe later worked as a barber, a fireman for Cookeville Fire Department, and many years as a hearing aid specialist. He was a Jack of all trades.

Joe was a long-time member of Samaria Church of Christ, where he served many years as an Elder in the Body of Christ.

Family left to cherish his memory include his wife: Virginia Lafever of Cookeville;
daughters: Sherry (Tom) Hatch of Nashville, Donna (Randy) Madden and Julie Lafever - both of Sparta; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brothers: Carl Lafever of Cookeville and Ronnie LaFever of McMinnville; sisters: Wanda Pinegar of Sparta and Marcia Smith of Nashville; along with a host of special friends and other family members and brothers and sisters in Christ.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son: Marlin Ray Lafever and seven siblings.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Presley Funeral Home with Bro. David Eldridge officiating. Interment followed in the Lafever Cemetery located in White County.
