Violet Estell Moats went home to be with her Lord & Savior on December 27, 2021.

Violet was born on June 28, 1929 in Caledonia, MS to Eckford & Elsie (Stanford) Dove.

A graduate of Caledonia High School, Violet's life was full of adventure. She joined the Air Force, worked for Boeing and met Wilmer, her husband of 58 years, on a double-date. Their marriage took them around the country and globe and brought eight children along the way.

A loving wife, selfless mother & grandmother and loyal sister and friend, her heart and door were always open. A wonderful host, she enjoyed visits with family and friends. Her home was the unspoken gathering place for holidays and impromptu visits alike. Ever gracious, she greeted you with a Pepsi when you arrived and a "God bless you" when you left. She was always thrilled to catch up or just shoot the breeze - often with team favorites Ole Miss or the Braves in the background. A great storyteller, she loved to share tales of growing up in the country with a wit and charm all her own.

Strong in her faith, Violet was a decades-long member of Faith Baptist Church in Hampton where she spent many years in the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, word puzzles and birdwatching.

Violet had a heart for people. She was the embodiment of unconditional love - always ready with a warm smile, gentle spirit and strong hug. Her unflappable nature and willingness to lend a hand was a pillar of strength for her loved ones. A friend to all, Violet was the sweetest woman you'd ever meet and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer; and daughter, Elizabeth. She is survived by her 7 children, Darlene, Linda, Glenda, Ed, Russell, Doug and Kenny; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 5th, at Hampton Memorial Gardens with Pastor Larry Ronan officiating.
Arrangements by W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
