J.D. Dove, 81, died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at his home. Visitation is 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral service today at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Dove was born in Detroit, Alabama. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fannin. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years of service. He served in World War II and Korea. During World War II, while serving in North Africa, he has forced to parachute from his enemy damaged aircraft and was taken prisoner by the Germans. He spent two years as a prisoner of war in Germany.

His son, John and daughter, Susan preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Cleo; granddaughter, Donna Hunt of Ridgeland; daughter-in-law, Claudia Berry of Jackson; great-grandsons, Kyle and John Hunt of Fannin; chosen grandsons, Alexander and Andrew Whittington of Bentonia; brothers, Will D. Dove and Herman Dove of Caledonia; sisters, Louetta Morton of Memphis, Tenn., Jewel Tiffin of West Point, Violet Moates of Virginia Beach, Va., Eleanor Wright of Columbus and Luna Kilburn of North Carolina.
