He is survived by his loving wife, soul mate, and best friend, Rebecca Hatch Brannon and their daughters, Reece and Emily Brannon and Paige and Caroline Napier; his sister Resa Brannon Wirick, her husband Ed and their children Matthew and Ellie Wirick of Chesapeake, Dale and Sandi Brannon, Anderson, SC; Clyde and Susan Adams, Lancaster, SC; Coot Bridges, Greenville, SC, Tommy Brannon, Anderson, SC and Elizabeth Bridges, Ludowici, GA. He also leaves behind a host of friends, too numerous to name.
Jim graduated from Cave Spring High School in Roanoake, Virginia in 1987 and enlisted in the United States Navy Submarine Service in 1989. Jim served Our Nation honorably for 20 years, attaining the elite rank of Chief Petty Officer. A highly decorated submariner, Jim served in the supply and logistics community aboard the USS Seahorse, USS Mendel Rivers, USS Narwhal, and USS Boise.
A devoted husband and father, Jim also coached CFSA Girl Softball and was recently elected President of the league.
Jim was a self-taught and accomplished culinary perfectionist who loved cooking and fine dining. His stinging quick wit and intellectual sarcasm were his trademarks.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 16, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Chesapeake Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that memorial contributions be made in Jim's memory to the Chief Petty Officer Scholarship Fund http://www.cposf.org.
