He was the son of Grant Franklin and Anna L. Batson. He was the brother of Edward Grant Franklin and Agnes Ann Franklin Barnes. Was married to Nola Blanche Wagner in 1906. Had fraternal twins Holmes Maurice and Charles Lucas Franklin born in August 1907. Was a painter. His parents moved to Ferndale Maryland because they were Seventh Day Adventists and were being persecuted in Carroll County Maryland around 1900. The plowed their gardens on Sunday and apparently angered neighbors since Sunday is the day of rest for Christians.

Franklin, Maurice Clay, was born in Carroll County Februay 15, 1885, and died in Union Memorial Hospital Baltimore May 4, 1952. On October 17, 1906 he was married to Nola Wagner. To this union were born three sons. He leaves to mourn two sons, Charles L. and Maurice Holmes; three grandchildren, Audrey, Charlotte and Alvin; one sister Agnes Franklin and one brother Edward G. Franklin. He awaits the resurrection. Funeral services by the writer in Glen Burnie. D. Mackintosh.
