She loved celebrating holidays and spending time with her family. Evelyn was especially close to her mother-in-law, Katherine, where she and Jim spent countless Friday nights playing cards or Wahoo with her. She discovered her talent for crafts after her children had moved away. For many years you could count on getting a painted Christmas ornament with her initials and the year on the back.
She also loved working in her yard and was an avid reader. Even after her Alzheimer's diagnosis and her memories had faded she would still watch her beloved TCU Frogs on the television. She became interested in genealogy and spent hundreds of hours researching, documenting and dragging Jim with her to countless cemeteries in several states to track down records.
Evelyn was a 69 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the United Transportation Union where she held every office at one time or another.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active part of her grandchildren's lives and until recent years she never missed sending a birthday card.
She was a life long Catholic and was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Andrews Catholic Church, both in Fort Worth.
She is survived by her husband, James Allen of Valley View; sister, Velma Hawkins of Silver Lake, Kansas; son, daughters, ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her oldest child, Bobby Allen; parents, Hugh and Irene Bardin; brother, Harold Bardin; brother-in-law, Jack Hawkins; son-in-law, Ron Woodford; mother-in-law, Katherine Allen.
Graveside service will be Friday, December 31, 2021 at one o'clock with Visitation thirty minutes prior at the grave site at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
