FORT WORTH - Irene Osborn Bardin, 83, a retired secretary with United Transportation Union, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at a local hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. under the auspices of Evergreen Lodge No. 170, Auxiliary to the UTU.

Memorials: Vitas Hospice Healtcare Corp., Alzheimers Association of Tarrant County, St. Vincent dePaul Society at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and the Food Bank at St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Irene Osborn Bardin was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Fort Worth to Joseph M. and Ruby Benton Osborn. She was educated in Catholic schools, graduating from Our Lady of Victory Academy in 1932. She married Hugh Bardin in 1935. She was a charter member of both St. Andrew and St. Bartholomew Parishes and was a longtime member of St. Bartholomew's choir. She served her parish in many ways until ill health ended her activities.

She worked as a secretary for the United Transportation Union and as a bookkeeper and office manager of Local 178, International Union of Operating Engineers. She retired from the UTU office in 1980. She was a 50 year member of the Evergreen Lodge No. 170, Auxiliary to the UTU, a past grand vice president, District 7, and past president of Evergreen Lodge No. 170, as well as a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital and a guard member of the Fort Worth Arts Council. She was also past president ofthe OLV Alumni and the Hallmark Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, her son, H. Michael in 1988, and her sister, Esther Osborn Blake in 1982.

Survivors: Daughters, Evelyn Allen and her husband, James of Fort Worth and Velma Hawkins and her husband Jack of Silver Lake, Kan.; grandsons, Robert Allen of Fort Worth and William Allen and his wife, Jolynn of Wetumpka, Ala. and Joseph Hawkins of Topeka, Kan.; granddaughters, Karen Allen, Kelli White, both of Crowley and Katherine Woodford and husband, Ron of Charles Town, W.Va., Kim White and her husband, Ronnie of Valley View and Jacque Taylor and her husband, Mark and Julie Kolde,all of Silver Lake, Kan. and Jennifer White and her husband, Russell of Beverly, Kan.; 19 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gordon Blake of Fort Worth; nephew, Michael Blake of Crowley; Cousin Virginia Lipscomb of Fort Worth; and many other cousins andfriends.
