Age 97, of Durand, formerly of Bancroft, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the Durand Convalescent Center.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Love Funeral Home in Bancroft, with Pastor Michael L. McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery in Bancroft. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 7 to 9 his evening and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Delia was born in Benzie County on Feb. 23, 1908, the daughter of George W. and Bessie (Smith) Edson. She was a Durand High School graduate.
A homemaker, she loved to read and enjoyed growing flowers, sewing, cooking and was an avid fisherman.
She married Cecil Bowers in Flint in 1925. He passed away in April 1948. In 1950, she married Alva Haueisen in Lennon. He passed away in November 1966. She then married Ross Turner in 1970. He passed away in 1973.
Survivors include: Nine children, Robert (Barbara) Bowers of Durand, Edna VanNewkirk of Bancroft, Virginia (Charles) Leckenby of Chapin, Bessie (Duanne) VanRiper of Durand, Maretta Teachworth Buchner of Cohoctah, Cecil (Helen) Bowers of Perry, Gladys (Robert) Numerick of Owosso, George Bowers of Florida and Grace (Harold) Rounds of Bancroft; 45 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Cecil Bowers, Alva Hauiesen and Ross Turner; two sons, Donald E. and Carl Bowers; daughter, Barbara Farrero; and three great-great-grandchildren.
