Mrs. Ellen Clinton, aged 75, of Amboy, died at the Lee county infirmary at Eldena on Thursday morning.

Mrs. Clinton accomplished her self destruction by leaping from a second story window of the building while the rest of the inmates and attendants were at breakfast. At no time had she given a hint that she might be contemplating any attempt to escape from the institution and no attention was paid to her as she arose from the table and went up stairs.

She entered a room which Mrs. Wicher, matron, had been cleaning, knocked the screen from the window with her cane, threw out a bundle of her clothing, which she is believed to have tied up during the night, and jumped. Her body, lying on the bundle of clothing, was discovered soon afterward, she was removed to the hospital room and a physician was summoned from Amboy. A deep gash in the back of her head and internal injuries were discovered, and despite everything the physician could do she died about two hours after noon. The remains were taken to Amboy where interment will take place.

She preceded in death by her husband, Michael Clinton and her daughter, Anna.

Ellen was the daughter of P Fitzsimmons and Mary Lee. Ellen and Michael were the parents of Michael, Anna, Patrick, Peter, Catherine, Thomas, and Mary Clinton.
