Ivy was born on May 7, 1931 in the Town of Scott, daughter of Rutherford and Erma Saueressig Peter.
She graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1949, and was united in marriage with George Maechtle on June 10, 1950 at Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia.
The couple raised their family and worked as family partners in Maechtle's General Store, located in Waubeka.
Mrs. Maechtle was a very active member of Zion United Methodist Church, serving as the church organist for 20 years. She was also a past president of the Administrative Council, a Sunday School Teacher, a Vacation Bible School Teacher, a lay speaker, and a member of the choir, hand-bell choir and the United Methodist Women.
Ivy was also very active in her community as well. She had served as an Election Board Commissioner, as secretary for the Flag Day Foundation, a member of the National Flag Day Society, and a 4H leader in music projects.
Mrs. Maechtle taught piano lessons for many years and held a lifelong love of music. She enjoyed playing the piano, was an avid reader, liked playing games and enjoyed doing embroidery work in her younger years. Ivy was also an enthusiastic sports fan who cheered for all of the local teams, as well as teams that her family and grandchildren were involved with.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, George Maechtle of Waubeka, their two daughters: Sandra (Tom) Blumenberg of Hayward and Marcia (Mike) Gaspari of Batavia, IL and two grandchildren: Andrea and Noel Gaspari, both of Batavia, IL. She is further survived by a brother, Rollin (Margie) Peter of Batavia, WI, a sister, Merley (Russell) Melius, also of Batavia, WI, sister-in-law Esther (the late Ralph) Maechtle of Cedar Gardens in Cedarburg, 7 nieces and nephews: Kathryn, Ike, Luan, Paul, Gloria, Allan and Rita. Ivy is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law and a great-nephew Gabe Peter.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 23rd, 6PM at Zion United Methodist Church, N1667 Hwy 28 in Batavia. Pastor Gail Mitchell will officiate. Interment will take place the next day in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Sunday from 3-6PM.
