Bertha "Jean" Imogene Hurst of Muncie, Indiana passed away at the age of 90 at Golden Living Center in Muncie the morning of Friday, December 17, 2021.

She was born on July 29, 1931 in Anderson, Indiana to the late Selby Frank and Mary Ann (Van Horn) Harney.

Jean married Frank M. Hurst, Sr. in Muncie on Christmas Eve in 1949, and they journeyed through life together until his passing on June 23, 2014

Jean most recently worked at Beatson Food Market as a cashier. She previously worked for Harold's Grocery Store, the Blaine Cafe, and the Southside High School Cafe and for 38 years at Marsh Supermarket. Jean was previously a member of Eden United Church of Christ, Gethsemane United Methodist Church, and Fountain Square Church. She was most recently a member of University Christian Church in Muncie and was also a member of the Blaine School PTA. She was also a precinct committeeman. Jean will forever be remembered as a loving wife who loved to cook and take care of her family, grandchildren, and friends. She loved playing card games, going on trips, and helping with Samaritan's Purse.

Jean is survived by four sons, Robert G. Hurst (Deborah) of Muncie, Frank M. Hurst, Jr. of Edgewater, Florida, Martin D. Hurst (Annette) of Edgewater, Florida, and Allen Lee Hurst (Kim) of Muncie; three daughters, Zelopha Surgener of Muncie, Debra Jean Raines (Rick) of Dunkirk, Indiana, and Beth Myrick (Fred) of Muncie; brothers, Clifford E. Harney (Ruth Ann) of Texas and Kenneth Harney of Texas; sister, Maxine Burke (Charle) of Kokomo, Indiana; seventeen grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Selby Frank and Mary Ann (Van Horn) Harney; brothers, Harold Franklin Harney, William Harney (Clara), Roscoe Harney (Ellen), and Selby J. Harney (Patsy); sisters, Thelma M. Belt (Ray), Phillis J. Aker (Norman), and Doris L. Martin (Lionel); and sister-in-law, Kathy Harney.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM officiated by Steve Huddleston.

Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie
