Leonard "Smitty" Smith, 81, of Fremont, passed away on December 12, 2021 at Countryside Manor. He was born in Tiptonville, TN on January 1 ,1940 to J.C. and Barbara (Weatherspoon) Smith. He attended Fremont Ross High School and worked for Nickles Bakery, where he retired after 35 years. Smitty was an outdoorsy type who liked living off the land and could often be found out in nature fishing, hunting or gardening. He had trained professionally as a boxer and came close to competing in the Junior Olympics. What his family and friends remember about him most is how he was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, as well as his comical personality. He loved to tell stories, where he sometimes might enhance the truth a bit, and if you asked him, he was a jack-of-all-trades. Whether you were cooking or cutting wood, Smitty was always ready with a witty comment and his "helpful" input. As his family affectionately puts it, he had a talent for big talk, earning himself a PhD in the art of talking sh…I mean mess.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Gloria, Barbara, his favorite son, James, Lori, Yzrael, his second favorite son, Ishiaha, who they all just tolerate, however, he loved all his daughters equally. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren: Anthony, Virgil, Shawn, Quentin, Demonté, Robert, Dustin, Joshua, Devón, Carter, Shia, Jesiah, Benecia, Bebe, Nikka, Meghan, Ashley, Jasmine, JaMonyca, Alexandria, Shayla, Echo, many great-grandchildren, siblings: Rae Lynn Garrett, Jerry Smith, and his ex-wives: Brenda, Patricia and Melanie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children: Lenny and Lennette, granddaughter, Sonyia, sister, Gloria Lomax-Taylor, and brother, William Wells.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH, 43420.
