He was born June 20, 1930 in Transylvania County, the son of the late Thurman and Pearl Baynard Ball.
He served in the tank corps during the Korean War and worked for a number of years at the Spinning Wheel Rug company in Hendersonville.
He also worked in construction for Bob Greer, building homes in the Etowah and Horseshoe communities. He later founded Ball and Son Roofing Company with his son.
Before his illness, he attended Mud Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosella Day, Lillie Green, and Jeanette White, two brothers, W.F. Ball and Marvin Ball, his daughter Patricia Diane Morgan, son-in-law David Morgan, son-in-law David Allison and his grandson David Morgan Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Beulah Ellen Allison Ball, one son, Lafoy Ball Jr., daughters, Sharon Allison, Mary Harwood (Steve Dalton), Debbie Summey (Jeff Summey), Lynn Pope (Ben Pope), Julie Ball (Alan Marler) and Pamela McCarson (Mack McCarson). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grand-children.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 am Friday at Boylston Church cemetery.
