Phillip Sampson was born about 1822 in North Carolina. In some records, his name is listed as Philip Sampson.

Phillip married Esther Cook 3 Oct 1845 in Union County, Georgia, and they had 10 children.

Phillip Sampson enlisted 17 Aug 1863 in Hiawassee, Georgia in Company G, 65th Infantry. He was admitted Jan 1864 to the hospital in Macon, Georgia with chronic bronchitis and transferred out in Mar 1864. For Jul 1864 to Aug 1864, he is listed as "in hospital wounded". There is no evidence in Phillip's Civil War service records that he died during the war.

Phillip probably died about 1869 around the time Concorde Rado was born. Phillip is not listed in the 1870 census. His burial location is unknown.
