Sophia Ellen Black (nee DeChard), age 73, of Marietta, Oklahoma Territory. died Saturday, January 26, 1907, at the home of her daughter.

She was born January 1, 1834, in Tennessee, the daughter of Peter Spyker and Frances Heneretta (Holder) DeCherd.

She was the wife of the Reverand Samuel Black. They were married June 28, 1853, in Franklin County, Tennessee. They were the parents of at least three sons, W. S., Howard M., and Samuel; and four daughters, H., C. E., Bettie and Alice.

She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She and Sam probably left Tennessee in 1854 when her parents moved to the Waco, Texas area.

Her parents came to Crawford County, Arkansas in 1868,

She and Sam were listed in the 1860 Census in Benton County, Arkansas.

They are in the 1870 Census at Fayetteville in Washington County, Arkansas.

They went to Marietta, Oklahoma Territory about 1900.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, John Holder Decherd and Richard Michael Decherd.

She is survived by five children, Mrs. W. W. Smith, Miss Bettie Black, Howard Black and Samuel Black all of Marietta, and Mrs. Perry Brown, of Gainesville, Texas; two brothers, Benjamin Decherd of Van Buren, Arkansas and Nathan Green Decherd, of Marietta; and a sister, Virginia Oakes of Thackerville.

Burial is in Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta.
