Pettibone "Redbone" Mitchell, Jr., age 62, died Wednesday, November 10, 1982 at Oak Ridge Hospital after suffering complications from surgery. He had been diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Mr. Mitchell was born February 16, 1920 in Newcomb, Tennessee to Herman Pettibone Mitchell and Marie Louise Rigney . During World War II, he joined the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Stephens Baptist Church in Morgan County, Tennessee.

Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Auther Mitchell, sisters; Launa Seeber and Elizabeth Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by brothers; Hugh Mitchell of Danville, Illinois, Oscar Mitchell of Frost Bottom, Tennessee, and Roscoe Mitchell of Catlin, Illinois, sisters; Leona Robbins of Oliver Springs, Bethelene Wynn of Danville, Illinois, and Ruth Lawson of Frost Bottom.

Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs, Tennessee was in charge of the arrangements. The burial took place in Black Oak Cemetery in the Laurel Community near Clinton, Tennessee.
