Walter "Red" Schalk, 94, died Wednesday, June 27, 1984, at Wood River Township Hospital in Madison County, Illinois.
He was born in Harvel, Illinois, a son of Herman and Sophia (Brandt) Schalk. He married Alma Johnson on August 31, 1913 and she died March 30, 1972. Later, he married Mrs. Violet (Britton) Ford on September 23, 1973, in Alton, Illinois.
Having worked most of his adult life as a machinist for the railroads; Red finished his career at Illinois Terminal Railroad, Alton. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Alton, Illinois.
Survivors included his wife, Violet and her daughters, Nancy (Vogt) Schwartz of Belleville, Illinois and Judy (Vogt) Watkins of Dorsey, Illinois.
