Actor, Comedian, Musician. He is best remembered for his comical monologues on the Danish stage. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on August 11, 1927, he was the son of the opera singer Asger Ryg and his wife the pianist Ellen Ryg. As a youngster growing up he was surrounded by music but he originally wanted to be a vet but eventually, he learned how to play the trumpet instead and he went onto become one of Denmark's great jazz trumpeters. He later became a member of the Bent Schjærff's Jazz Quartet and then toured with Leo Mathisen's band for three years. He later entered the world of acting and became a member of a comedy team that also included Preben Kass. Together, the two men appeared on stage in a series of comic monologues at the ABC Theater in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 1960 to 1966. In 1975, he also appeared in a circus revue and theater productions. As an actor, he appeared in some 40 films between 1954 and 1978. Some of his film credits include, "Be Dear To Me" (1957), "Two Crazy Guys" (1961), "School For Suicide" (1964), "I, A Lover" (1966), "Three Men In Search Of A Troll" (1967), "The Key To Paradise" (1970), "Lenin, You Rascal, You" (1972, for which he won the Bodil Award for Best Male Role), "Dagmar, Is Where It's At" (1972), "The Office Party" (1976), "Going For Broke" (1977), and "The Factory Outing" (1978). His last role was as 'Henry Villand Møller' in the film, "Fængslende feriedage" in 1978. He also played the role of 'Josef Jørgensen' in an episode of the television series, "Huset på Christianshavn" in 1977. He passed away following a serious illness in his native Copenhagen, Denmark, on August 28, 1981, at the age of 54, and he was buried in the Bronshoj Cemetery in Bronshoj, Denmark, where several other famous Danish personalities are also laid to rest.
