Miss Elizabeth Van Waggoner was born in Erie county, New York, July 12, 1832, and came to Illinois with her parents in 1855 and settled in Whiteside county. June 19 1856 she was united in marriage to Mr. James Houseman, to which union five children - three sons and two daughters - were born, all of whom survive her. The oldest daughter resides in Madison county, N.Y. while the other children are living at home. Mrs. Houseman was stricken with paralysis about four months ago and gradually grew worse and weaker until her spirit passed away. She was an affectionate wife and mother, ever looking to the comfort and welfare of her loved ones, assuming burdens from them, rather than see them suffer any care or sorrow, and her death be greatly mourned.
