She was preceded in death by her husband Newton Ryle Adams.
She was employed at Southern Bell for 37 years where she was the first woman to get a man's position in the 1960's. She was also a secretary in the U.S. Navy in Charleston, SC during WWII. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School in Kingstree, SC, Rice Business College in Charleston, SC and attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She was a pioneer for all women's rights and for all human rights. She was Vice President of the Carrousel Chapter of the American Business Association where she had fifteen years of perfect attendance. She was the President and Vice President of the Life Member Hornet Nest Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was the CWA Representative for the Quality of Work Life with Southern Bell. She was the chairperson of the Cerebral Palsy Telethon in the 70's. She was a lifetime member of Pineville United Methodist Church where she loved to honor and and worship her Lord Jesus Christ. After retirement in the 1980's, she was a volunteer with the Junior Achievement Program through Southern Bell where she would teach and volunteer with Mecklenburg County Schools. Because of her love for all animals that God created, she volunteered endlessly at the Charlotte Humane Society. Through the years, she rescued and saved many cats and dogs. She volunteered at Presbyterian Hospital and Mercy Hospital doing everything from rocking premature babies to reading to very sick patients. She served as elder advisor for the Association for People with disabilities. She worked for the many democratic campaign committees including Knox, Martha Alexander and DG Martin. She was a volunteer and advisor to the juvenile court system helping and advising young people in the 80's.
She was a wonderful mother to Ryle, her daughter. She was always serving and volunteering as room mother, Girl Scout leader cookie chairwomen and was always a Christian prayer warrior and loving example of what a mother should be. She was also a neighborhood mother to many children through the years. She was also loved and adored by her son in law, Jerry M. Snyder. She was like a second mother to Jerry and his life was enriched just by having her as "Mama Adams".
