John Calvin "J.C." Aikey, 85, of 221 E. Chestnut St. for the past 55 years, entered into rest at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where he lived since March.
He was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Millmont, a son of the late Harry Wesley and Myrtle Waugh Aikey. He and the former Aladean M. Plotts were married June 14, 1947, at Watsontown United Church of Christ.

He attended Hartley Township schools.

J.C. served in the Navy from Jan. 6, 1943, until his honorable discharge Jan. 21, 1946, during which time he was decorated with the European Theater Ribbon five stars, Pacific Theater, Good Conduct and American Theater ribbons and the Victory Medal.

He was employed as a tank car fitter by American Car & Foundry Inc., Milton, for 37 years before retiring in June 1976.

Mr. Aikey was a member of Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, New Berlin American Legion Post 957, a life member of the Mifflinburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1964 and the Mifflinburg Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1396, and a member of the West End Fire Company, Glen Iron, and the Union County Sportsmen's Association, Weikert.

He played the guitar and sang vocals with "The 4M's," a local dance band of the 1950s through 1970s.

He also enjoyed gardening at his home and hunting and traveling to Canada to fish.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of more than 58 years, are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patsy and Harry E. Harris of Virginia, Kathy and Paul N. Houdeshell, Lana Aikey and Lisa and Daniel M. Culp, all of Mifflinburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph J. and Peggy Aikey of Millmont; one sister, Eleanor Pentycofe of West Virginia; two grandchildren, Jessica Marie and her husband, Roberto Reyes, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Dillon Culp of Mifflinburg; two stepgrandchildren, Tiffany and her husband, Mark A. Shoemaker, and Daniel M. Culp II., all of Mifflinburg; one great-granddaughter, Shaylyn Marie Aikey Reyes; and one stepgreat-grandson, Ethan Riley Shoemaker.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cindy Lou Aikey; one brother, Thomas Aikey; and four sisters, Mary Sheesley Zimmerman, Mabel Zechman, Pearl Ebersole and Alverta Oberlin.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home by the Rev. Richard M. VonNeida.

Burial with military rites by Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410 will be in Hartleton Cemetery.
