Willis R. McNeal Sr., age 74 of Towanda RR 3, formerly of Canton, died Sunday, June 6, 1999 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda. Born Aug. 8, 1924, in Canton, he was a son of the late William and Phoebe Hemmingway McNeal. Willis was employed for more than 30 years by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1986. Willis proudly served his country during World War II. He was a member of the Towanda Beirne-Webster V.F.W. Post No. 1568, the Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 and the Monroeton Rod and Gun Club. He was also a former member of the Canton Moose Lodge, The Red Run Rod and Gun Club in Ralston and the former Eagles Club in Towanda. Willis was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved visiting family and friends and taking rides through the countryside with his niece Rosemarie Benedict and Charles Porter. He is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, Willis, Jr. and Mary Jo McNeal of Missouri; two daughters; Winona Learn of Sayre; Wanda McNeal of Roaring Branch; six grandchildren; Joshua and Allen McNeal; Mrs. Guy (Kathy Jo) Pyle: Lisa, James B. and John Learn; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, and sisters-in-law; Glen and Florence McNeal of Blossburg; Lester and Elsie McNeal of Millerton; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his caregiver and second family: Judy and Jack Eddy of Towanda and their children, Cindy and Kelly Eddy; Mrs. Joe (Nichole) Maloney; special friend and companion; B.J. Eddy; and loving friends; Norma Bovier and family. Mr. McNeal was preceded in death by three sisters; Etta Porter, Erma Wilcox and Emma Owens; and a son-in-law; Carl Learn. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive, Canton, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor David Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Grover Cemetery with the Canton V.F.W. Post 714 according full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Willis McNeal Memorial fund, c/o RR 3 Box 331, Towanda, Pa. in Mr. McNeal's memory.
