The BAKER and BARKER families are TWO different families - they are NOT the same.
Contrary to the spelling on the stone, "The Descendants of Rev. Thomas Hooker", clearly shows William and Sarah's daughter Mary Smith m. BAKER of New York City; (note there is no additional 'R').
It is quite clear with dates provided on Family Search that John BARKER (1741-1798) and John BAKER (1735-1775) are clearly two different individuals. Researchers have erroneous belief they are the same - Mary Smith Baker (daughter of William Hooker Smith) is NOT the same as Mary BARKER.
Since the final digit has, sadly, broken off, there is no actual age (in years) at death. Mary *could* have been 30 years old, which would put her birth year as 1753, which would NOT make Mary BARKER the daughter of William Hooker Smith and Sarah Brown(e).
