Born in Burke County, Aug. 25, 1937, he was the son of the late Frank Lingafelt and Iris Franklin Lingafelt.
Fred was a member of Praise Assembly of God, where he had served as a chief usher. He retired from Drexel Heritage, with over eighteen years of service and loved to fish and travel.
Fred is survived by his wife, Sylvia Browning Lingafelt, of the home; a son, Bennett Lingafelt Jr. and wife, Kelly, of Morganton; daughters, Angie Hudgins and husband, Jeff and Nada Greene, both of Morganton; grandchildren, Miklayla Lingafelt, Jack Lingafelt, Neal Lingafelt, Andy Hudgins, and Matt Hudgins and wife, Lauren; a great-grandson, Connor Hudgins; brothers, Alexander Lingafelt and wife, Nina and Delbert Lingafelt and wife, Betty; sisters, Laura Whisnant and husband, Vernon, Louise Coffey, Virginia Carpenter and husband, J.C., Ethel Morrison, and Geneva King; and number of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Allman.
A celebration of Fred's life will be held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center, with the Rev. Kevin Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, from 4 to 5 p.m., prior to the service.
