Kathryn Marie Basila Breland passed away peacefully October 24, 2021. The graduation to glory service is scheduled for October 29, 2021, in Hattiesburg, MS, at Jones and Son Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Joseph Brent of Main Street Baptist Church. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Cemetery in McLain.

Kathryn was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 26, 1940, the daughter of Basil F. and Frances Locke Basila. She enjoyed playing tennis in her teens and was ranked number two in the South at that time. After her graduation from Murphy High School in Mobile, AL, she received her B.S. degree from the University of Alabama and her A.A.S. degree Cum Laude, from the Fashion institute of Technology in New York City. She then worked as a patternmaker for Basila Mfg. Co. Inc., a lounge wear manufacturer in Leakesville, MS, whose robes were marketed globally. She was married to Leakesville attorney Curtis Breland in 1964. At his death, they had been married for 43 years.

She was christened in St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio, TX, and confirmed at All Saints Episcopal church in Mobile, AL. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Leakesville, and a charter member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Leakesville, MS. After moving to Hattiesburg, Kathryn joined Main Street Baptist Church where she became active in the church. She also joined The Visionaries Choir, singing monthly in area rest homes and retirement facilities. She also enjoyed capturing her friends and family through photography and became an amateur photographer by catching the smiles of those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Basil and Frances Basila, and her husband, Curtis Breland. Kathryn is survived by two daughters; Patricia (Scott) Cone and Karen (Chuck) Gaouette of Hattiesburg; grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, and Kristen Cone, Curtis and Nicholas Gaouette and a host of cousins in Texas and on the West coast.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Jones and Son Funeral Home of Hattiesburg.
