From an article on the Vieley Cemetery written by Roscoe Leak in 1956: The first burial of which there is a record in Union Township was made in the Cundiff Cemetery. William Leak entered the land on which this cemetery is located. His mother-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Duncan, came from Kentucky for a visit in May of 1835. One day she went to visit the family of Lewis Leak who lived a short distance away. As she was returning, a storm came up. She ran to reach home before the storm broke. The exertion caused a heart attack and she died - and the little Cundiff Cemetery was started. A few years later, William Leak, the farm owner died and his interment was the second.
