Evelyn Edwards ~ Aged 94 Years

"A Dear Lady
I met Evelyn in church 35 years ago. I think she had already retired from teaching but was a sub for many years. She was one sweet lady. I was always calling on her to correct my English in my church projects. I did the church bulletins at one point and I also wrote and directed Christmas play/program. I was always asking her advice and for proof reading. She was so great to me when my husband died so unexpected in an auto accident. She was nice, so sweet to me. She came to my house and visited afterwards when all the crowds were gone and I was alone and needed friends more than ever. She was a true Christian Southern Lady. Not like many that claim to be today. She didn't just talk the talk but she walked the walk, and she showed love to everyone. She cared for her handicapped blind sister all her life. She was so kind and patient with her. I remember one year we had a Christmas party and I gave her sister Lib a doll and she loved it, kept holding it like a baby and rocking back and forth. I can see her now. Smiles !!! She has also passed away now. Evelyn had a grandson she adored. He lived with her for many years. You worked long enough Evelyn, now Rest in Peace and enjoy all the splendor of Heaven."
GREENSBORO — Evelyn Garrett Edwards, 94, of Carolina Health Care Center, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 24, 2007.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Evelyn was born in Aiken, S.C., daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Garrett. She was a former educator whose love of teaching kept her in public schools for 37 years. She worked several years at Measurement Incorporated until her second retirement at the age of 90.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne Spencer Jeffers and her sister, Lib Garrett.
She is survived by a grandson, Charles McLaughlin; granddaughter, Kim Hanner (Leslie) and children, Coy, Caylan and Christian. She is also survived by her step-children, Marvin Edwards, Jr. (Pat) and family and Rose Bolick (Ernest).
The family would like to thank all those who made our grandmother's life rich with their friendship and love.
A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
