She was born on November 27, 1899 in Provo, Utah to Thomas Campbell Kirkwood and Sarah Jane Whitehead Kirkwood. Phyllis lived in three different centuries and enjoyed talking about all of the wonderful things that happened during her lifetime.
She married Fred W. Cooper in September of 1921 and they enjoyed 60 years together until his death in November, 1981. Phyllis lived in her own home in Provo until 1996 and then lived with her daughters on an alternating basis until January 2003 when it became necessary for her to enter the Wasatch Valley Rehabilitation Center where she has been a resident until her death.
Phyllis was the last surviving member of her family, having been preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. Phyllis was also predeceased by three other siblings: an older brother and sister: Thomas Walter Kirkwood (1895-1904) and Lucille Marie Kirkwood (b. 1897 and died as a baby), and an older half-sister named Viola (b. 1891). She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Donald F. (Joyce) Duce of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Dale E. (Nadine) Johnson of Mesa, Arizona; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
