MR. WILEY SYKES DEAD
Mr. Wiley Sykes, Sr., one of the oldest citizens of this city, died suddenly at is home here Wednesday during Christmas week. He had just partaken of a hearty Christmas Dinner and was preparing to leave the table when it was noticed that he fell backward. He expired instantly.
Mr. Sykes' dead was quite unexpected. He had been down town that morning and was apparently in his usual health. He was 82 years old. He was formerly a citizen of Monroe Co., but moved to Barnesville several years ago, since which time he had made this his home. At one time he was the sheriff of Monroe County, GA.
Funeral services were held at the home by Rev. O. L. Martin after which the body was carried to the old home burial ground in Monroe Co., GA where the interment took place. Mrs. Sykes, the aged widow, and all the relative the sympathy of the people of the community in their sorrow.
