She was preceded in death by her parents, George Robert and Margaret Shirley Aycock.
Shirley was a graduate of Norview High School and attended Old Dominion University. She retired from the City of Norfolk Parks and Recreation after 30 years. After, she worked for Norfolk Public Schools for 1 year and Advanced Services Inc. (General Electric) for 8.5 years. She was also an active member of Talbot Park Baptist Church since 1951, where she was an ordained deacon, Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Cross in My Pocket Ministry, and volunteered for many other church activities. Prior to her time at Talbot Park, she attended Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church from 1945 to 1950. Shirley was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, Norview High School Alumni Association, Neighborhood Civic Leagues, and volunteered for IBM services.
She is survived by her cousin, Mellie Maddox; a close friend, Rochelle Boatright; and many of her other friends from church.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 3, 2021 at Talbot Park Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Talbot Park Baptist Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
