Mr. Charles Doyle "Fud Dud" Moon, 71, of Deep Creek Road, Bowman, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.
Mr. Moon was born in Royston on February 21, 1950, son of the late Harvey Thomas Moon and Nancy Abigail Rousey Moon. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam war. Charles was a retired natural gas engineer having worked for both the City of Hartwell and City of Bowman, and had previously worked in the granite industry at AGM Memorials and Southern Mausoleums. He was an avid outdoorsman who absolutely loved life - he never met a stranger! Saturdays were for being at Hartwell Speed Way enjoying dirt track racing, attending a classic car show, or being with Betty jeep riding. Charles also enjoyed his old English game bantam chickens.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Radney Moon; daughter and the light of his life, Melissa and Todd Mercer of Bowman; step-son, Timmy and Sandra Radney of Morven, GA; grandchildren: Brett Mills, Tanner Mills, Matt Mercer, and Luke Mercer, all of Bowman; step-granddaughter, Kristen and Brandon Barker; the son he never had, Caleb James Butler; siblings: Coy and Martha Moon of Elberton, Pauline Seigler of Bowman, Barbara Mason of Bowman, Foye and Bobby Rucker of Elberton, and Deborah Kesler of Royston; nephew, Michael Tate; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death step-son, James Randal Croft; and siblings: Hubert Moon, Herman Moon, Aaron Moon, Beverly Rucker, and Darlena Carey.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, March 12, at 11 o'clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Tim Adams, Chuck Black, and Michael Marcengill officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-9:00p.m. on Thursday, March 11.
