Elizabeth Esther Smith was the daughter of James Smith and his wife, Maria. She was the third wife of James Davana Bruce whom she married in 1896. They had nine children: James Davana, Graham Graydon, Matthew Methusela, Winifred Lee, Hilda Vane, Amy Frances, Lula May, Mary Ellen, and Thelma Adelaide. She died in what was then Princess Anne County, Virginia (now city of Virginia Beach).
