He helped his uncle Dr Elijah S. Sherley during his youth, assisting in his Drug store, and went to Medical School at St Louis Medical College and graduated in March 1879. In Sep 1882, he went to TX and practiced for 8 months, and then returned to Xenia, IL in March 1883.
