Cordelia A. Young "Cordie" Sale Shuman

Cordelia A. Young "Cordie" Sale was the daughter of Dr. Fleetwood Howard Sale and Lillie Etta Gibbins Sale. She married Ernest Wheeler Shuman in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn Co., IN on August 29, 1912. Their four children were Delver Howard Shuman, Floyd Harold Shuman, Lillie Etta Shuman Saxon, and Armelda Jean Shuman.

"Obituary Cordelia Y. Shuman, the only child of the late Dr. Fleetwood H. Sale and Lillie Gibbins Sale was born near Dillsboro, Indiana, September 11th, 1892, and passed to the Great Beyond at the Milan Clinic on the 3rd day of May, 1947. She attended the Dillsboro Schools and grew to womanhood in the vicinity of Dillsboro uniting in marriage with Ernest W. Shuman. To this union three children were born, Delver H. now of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Floyd H. who was a member of the United States Army Air Corps and gave his life in the service of his country in the year 1942, and Lillie Etta, now Mrs. Herbert Saxon of Rushville, Indiana. She was a member of Dillsboro Chapter No. 275 Order of Eastern Star and for a number of years, while health permitted, took an active part in the affairs of the Chapter. 'Cordie' as she was known to her family and friends was of a quiet and friendly disposition and was always ready to assist those in affliction and distress and through the years of her own affliction was always cheerful and uncomplaining and set an example of peace and fortitude, which may well be emulated by all of us, and which will long be remembered and which endeared her to those who knew her best. She leaves surviving, her husband and two children, together with eight grandchildren, a nephew and niece, two great nieces, one great nephew, her son-in-law and daughter-in-law, her mother-in-law Mrs. Anna Shuman with whom she shared a mutual bond of affection and devotion, her uncle Edgar S. Sale and two sons, her only near paternal relatives, who with many friends mourn the passing of a devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind neighbor and friend whose memory will long be cherished by all who knew her. 'Stepping from shadow into the light, After the darkness of a long night; Into the brightness of a new day, Where doubts, cares and troubles are all cast away, It is now that the Creators plan is made plain; Her trials on earth make heaven her gain; As gently the curtain of death is drawn, The light of His love casts the glow of a dawn. Hereafter for her there shall be no more night, Since having stepped forward, into the light.' " [Unpublished obituary from daughter Lillie Etta Shuman Saxon's scrapbook.]
