John "Hal" Fargason departed this life on Tuesday, September 14. He was 97.
He was born in Memphis, TN to Roberna Tucker and David Brown Fargason. After graduating from Bolton High School, he joined the Fourth Marine Regiment during WWII, seeing action on Guam and Okinawa. He worked in radio repair and knew the legendary Navajo Code Talkers.
After the war, Hal took a BSEE degree at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He worked for Westinghouse in Baltimore and at the Air Force Depot in Memphis before coming to Huntsville to work for the Air Defense and Control Systems. He retired in 1987.
Hal met and married the love of his life, Joy Hopkins, in 1965. Their beloved son, David Wallace Fargason, was born in 1969.
Hal enjoyed music, old movies and genealogy. He was a direct descendant of Civil War General Gideon Pillow.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Hospice of North Alabama and the "Tut" Fann State Veterans Home. SEMPER FI.
Services will be private. Hal's ashes will be interred in the Memory Garden at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.
Memorials may be made to the Heritage Room of the Huntsville Public Library.
