James F. "Wormy" Pierce

FORT MEADE - Mr. James F. "Wormy" Pierce, 87, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 in Winter Haven, FL. Mr. Pierce was born October 4, 1933, and was a native and lifelong resident of Fort Meade, He was a retired locomotive engineer for IMC Fertilizer, and a lifelong member of Oak Park Baptist Church of Fort Meade. Mr. Pierce was a family man and a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he loved to spend time with his family and friends making music at any opportunity he was able. Music was his passion, and he spent many hours playing his guitar with the group, 'Blue Grass Boys,' and when his leisure time didn't have him occupied with his music, he loved to spend time camping and fishing. With a strong work ethic, following his retirement from IMC, he went back to work with the City of Fort Meade Parks Dept., and also a citrus hauler, driving semi trucks for J.A. Stephens, Inc.

Mr. Pierce was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd F. and Alberta Albritton Pierce; his first wife, Martha Annette Pierce; daughter, Barbara Pierce Allgood; grandsons, Wesley Kerst and Billy Kerst; great-grandson, Hunter Kerst.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Irwin Pierce, Fort Meade, FL; daughters, Sandy Shiver & husband Ronnie, and Martha Harris and husband Lennie, all of Fort Meade, FL; step-sons, Justin Irwin and wife Megan, Winter Haven, FL, Victor Irwin and companion Linda, Fort Meade, FL; grandchildren, Annette, Brandy, Cameron, Dezirae, Skylar, Raven, Trinity, Athena, and Jace; great-grandchildren, Austin and Shenia, Morganne, Courtney, Zachary, Nathan, Blake, Clayton, Colton, and Riley. He is also survived by his longtime fur baby friend, "Little Bit."

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Connally Barnett officiating, and interment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
