Philip TROUT, Sr., was born 4 Apr 1765 in Bart Twp, Lancaster, PA, the son of the Rev. Hans Michol TRAUT and Catherine Elizabeth BERGER. Philip was the grandson of the immigrant, Johann Wendel Georg TRAUT (1689-1760) of Paradise Twp, Lancaster, PA, born in Kleinfischlingen (near Landau), Electoral Palatinate, Holy Roman Empire (now in Südliche Weinstraße, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany).
Philip married (1) Susannah SHRETTER (27 Dec 1773 -11 Aug 1823) in about 1788, perhaps in Chambersburg, Franklin, PA. Susannah was the daughter of Philip SHRETTER (1749-1778) who had served as a captain in the Revolutionary War, and Eva BYERS. Susannah died in Mt. Pleasant Twp, Westmoreland, PA on 11 Aug 1823.
Philip married (2) Elizabeth HARTMAN WHITMER (1786-1865) on 10 Aug 1824 in Greensburg, Hempfield Twp, Westmoreland, PA. She was the daughter of Johann Phillip Hartman and Dorothea Eva Sorg. She had apparently married first to unknown WHITMER, so it was apparently a second marriage for both Philip and Elizabeth.
It is believed that Philip and Susannah had come west to what would become Mount Pleasant Twp, Westmoreland County from Chambersburg, Franklin County, PA, in about 1789, perhpas with his older brother, Henry Michael TROUT (1757-1812) and wife Catherine BOSSART (1765-1833).
