An Omaha police officer died Wednesday after being rushed to a hospital from a local gym.

Paramedics performed CPR on Officer Torrey Gully, 42, but he was unresponsive, said Lt. Darci Tierney, a police spokeswoman.

Gully was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Tierney said Gully was a nine-year veteran of the force, a uniformed patrol officer assigned to the Southwest Precinct.

He is survived by his wife, Mia, and daughters Taleah, 12, and Torreyanna, 6.

"We express our most sincere condolences to Officer Gully's family, friends and co-workers," Tierney said in a statement. "He will be greatly missed."

A fund to help the Gully family has been set up at the Omaha Police Federal Credit Union, 3003 S. 82nd Ave.
